A.I.R. at Quinta das Relvas 2024
WHAT?
An artist-in-residence program at our wonderful space, with access to workshops and study visits, and supported by our team of caring and experienced professionals!
WHEN?
Associação Quinta das Relvas is now accepting applications for the months of June, September and November 2024.
WHO?
Any visual artist is welcome to apply!
WHERE?
About accommodation and facilities, all resident participants will be based in the headquarters of our NGO, a XVIII century farm, with an amazing natural heritage. Residents will be staying in our eco-tiny houses. Studios and shared spaces are on a short walking distance.
Some of your commodities are:
• Shared fully equipped kitchen;
• Shared bathroom;
• Common living room;
• Access to Wi-Fi internet wide band in working areas;
• 10 minutes walking from local commerce;
• 10 min drive from big supermarket and nearest town;
• Car will be available once for week for groceries and bikes for daily use;
• Pick-up from and to local transports.
As an art resident you will have access to the following:
• Visual art studio-atelier of 80m2 with natural light, equipped with washing station, heating and private toilet;
• Personal table and light;
• White walls with 4 mt height that allow hanging paper or canvas;
• Painting easels;
• Multimedia tools (tv screens, projector, DSLR camera and studio lights) – if available;
• Access to Analog photography studio;
• Performative art atelier 80m2 (if needed and available);
• All the outside garden areas;
• Access to a big range of natural materials (wood, clay, hay, etc) and plants (sustainable harvesting will be properly briefed; consider that each season will give access to different plants);
• All available tools and art materials on demand and with proper safety and working briefing (carpentry, drawing, available natural pigments);
• Educational material (pdf, available books, staffs’ brains, etc.).
In order to ensure your belongings and art pieces safety all working rooms are opened with a secure code key.

HOW?
For our residencies we conceived a flexible program for each week that comprises activities and workshops such as:
– introduction sessions to: Permaculture, Syntropic agroforest and other regenerative practices;
– workshops and experience sharing on means for a more sustainable art practice, etc.;
– study visits (Serralves Museum, Oliva Contemporary Art Center, Viarco – Pencil Factory, Águeda Arts Center; among others);
– mentoring, support and advice;
– an Open Studio moment for the local community (Please notice that the Open Studio moment will only happen once, at the end of the month);
– Movie nights;
Consider that all activities are suggestive and noncompulsory and rearrangements or adjustments can be made according to the needs and circumstances of the moment. You will always have a mentor or staff nearby for your questions.
COST?
To enroll in the residency, we are now asking for a 300€ fee for a week, 500€ fee for two weeks, 750€ fee for three weeks and 1000€ fee for the full month (4 weeks).
*Duos receive a 25% discount to each artist if sharing the same accommodation;
** Artists may receive visitors at a cost of 15€ per night (if sharing the same accommodation as the artist they are visiting). Babies up to 3 years old are welcome to stay free of charge.
Please notice that travelling to Quinta das Relvas/ Portugal, food and your art supplies are not included.
In case you apply to other funding opportunities, keep in mind we are happy to provide proper invitation letters to support funding applications (for instance, Culture Moves Europe).

Please notice that although it is required to submit a Portfolio and CV – so we can understand your profile, language and background – we give priority to those who demostrate a strong will to enroll the residence through their Motivation Letter.
